RAND’s Global and Emerging Risks (GER) Division brings together leading experts, strategists, and practitioners to help decision‑makers anticipate and respond to complex global challenges. These include the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, biotechnology breakthroughs, climate transformation, and intensifying geopolitical competition. We are seeking an Associate Director to play a pivotal role in shaping the division’s strategic direction, research agenda, partnerships, and talent development. This position reports directly to the Vice President and Director of Global and Emerging Risks. Key Responsibilities Guide and oversee GER’s research centers and initiatives, including AI, climate, geopolitics, and long‑range forecasting. Manage international chairs and fellows focused on China, Taiwan, Korea, Israel, Russia & Eurasia, and diplomacy. Ensure RAND’s standards of quality and objectivity in all research outputs. Support strategic planning, including revenue goals and recruitment targets. Collaborate with RAND’s U.S. research divisions to strengthen business development and government engagement. Represent RAND to senior stakeholders in government, academia, and industry. Lead advisory board programming and stewardship. Drive adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies. This is a five‑year term position, with the possibility of extension. The role combines management responsibilities with direct involvement in RAND research projects. **Requirements:** Qualifications Strong executive management skills: communication, leadership, and team‑building. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor senior researchers. Recognized expertise in national security or technology policy, with a robust professional network. Education & Experience Master’s or PhD in a relevant field. Minimum of 10 years of senior‑level management experience in government, academia, non‑profit research, or industry. Direct experience working with senior national security officials and industry leaders preferred.
